Sidcot Group

A statement from our Chairman

The Sidcot Group was established in 2005 as an acquisition vehicle, with the aim of creating a group of companies associated in the manufacture and supply of tissue and hygiene-based products. Sidcot made its first acquisition in March 2005, DTK Disposables, which was subsequently renamed as Matryx Ltd. Sidcot has invested over £10million into Matryx, with the addition of state-of-the-art converting equipment, providing Matryx with the asset base required to develop strategic and rapid growth. Matryx is now a leading independent manufacturer of tissue and towel-based products serving the European AFH market, with a turnover of £25million and a manufacturing capacity of over 7million cases per annum. Sidcot also acquired Woodstock Business Park, providing Matryx with 200,000sqft of manufacturing, warehousing and office accommodation. During 2006, Sidcot established a trading company called Negociar Ltd.

Negociar specialises in the trade and supply of tissue parent reels, having established links with international tissue producers from around the world and, having traded over 25,000 tonnes of tissue parent reels annually. Negociar has also been involved in the trading of secondary recycled fibre, supplying tissue mills both at home and abroad. The business continually seeks to add additional supply lines to its customers, with related and appropriate products. Negociar operates from Woodstock Business Park, sharing administration functions with Matryx. In 2011, Sidcot established a new manufacturing operation, specialising in folded towel products, Techcel, also operating from Woodstock. Techcel has a manufacturing capacity of more than 1 million cases per annum and, has a contract manufacturing agreement with an international branded tissue giant, as well as supplying hand towels directly to the European AFH market through its sister company, Matryx Ltd. 2017 saw the biggest development in the Groups relatively short history, with the acquisition of SCA’s former tissue mill at Chesterfield, now renamed, SIdcot Group (Chesterfield Mill) Ltd. Sidcot Group is now totally integrated with the mill supplying the paper needs of both Matryx and Techcel, with any surplus capacity traded into the market via Negociar. Chesterfield, is a perfect fit for the Group, with the machine width complementing the asset sizes of both Matryx and Techcel. The mill has an annual capacity of 32,000 tonnes, producing a versatile range of products in both pure and recycled grades with a grammage range from14.5gsm to 38gsm. The Sidcot Group now has a combined turnover of £50million, with this impressive growth reflecting the Groups strategic and aggressive investment programme. The extensive market knowledge of the senior directors and managers have underlined this growth and now support the bold and exciting development plans for the Group’s future.

Group Chairman

Matryx Hygiene

Founded as DTK Disposables in 1985 and following considerable investment in new ‘state of the art’ converting lines Matryx in Oldham operates as the Group’s main converting business capable of producing over 30,000 cases of finished product per day. Matryx converts tissue and paper products exclusively for distributors, offering a broad range of hygiene and workplace products to customers who demand the best. Offering a complete range of branded and private label products distributed via our 4,000m2 warehousing and onsite logistic facilities we can ensure maximum control over the service, quality and reliability we make to our customers.

Sidcot Chesterfield Mill

The Group’s Paper Mill has benefited from over £2 million of investment from its former owners between 2014 and 2017 increasing the annual capacity to 32,000 tonnes per annum. With a workforce of over 40 full time employees, with an average 15 years’ service; it makes our Chesterfield Mill one of the most experienced in the UK. The Paper Machine is 3.42 meters wide and has the flexibility to also produce a 2.47-meter deckle; this flexibility is also replicated with the spectrum of base sheet grammage the Mill can offer; starting at 14.5gsm rising to 38gsm. This makes Chesterfield the only independent Mill in the UK that can offer a 38gsm base sheet; popular in many Matryx and Techcel converted Hand and Roll Towel products. However, what really helps to differentiate our Mill are the Environmental and Quality accreditations that we comply with (ISO9001, ISO14001, OHAS18001, FSC and Ecolabel) and the level of environmental investment that the Mill has undergone in recent years; which includes a £2 million investment in a recycled fibre plant and a £400,000 investment in a new energy recovery system.

Techcel Ltd in Oldham is the Group’s second major converting facility designed specifically to manufacture branded product for some major international customers. As a standalone facility it utilises converting machinery capable of producing over 5,000 cases per day of private label product, whilst meeting exacting specifications concerning raw materials and finished goods stock, linked directly to international warehousing.

Working in strategic partnership with the Group’s Chesterfield Mill; Negociar Ltd also based in Oldham has developed several strategic relationships with major paper mills across the world. Negociar secures continuity of supply for the Group and trades any surplus parent reels from the Chesterfield Mill into the UK converter market.
